In May 2026, we picked up an eight-week-old Labrador called Honey. Within a fortnight we were doing the maths every dog owner ends up doing: kibble grams, treat calories, how many bickies it takes for a "good sit", whether our calorie targets matched our vet's. The maths was right. The tools were not.
We dug into the data. Almost 60 % of US dogs are overweight (APOP 2024). UK rates aren't measured at the same scale, but our vet's anecdote — that BCS conversations are the hardest part of any consult — lined up. Owners mean well. The information is hard to find and harder to apply day-to-day.
CalDog is the app we wanted for Honey. A calm, science-backed bowl-tracker that uses FEDIAF and NRC equations, defers to your vet when in doubt, and never pretends to be more than it is. Educational, not diagnostic. The kind of tool we'd give to a friend.

No streaks-as-pressure. No guilt copy. No notifications you didn't ask for. The app is here when you want it and out of the way when you don't.
We never diagnose. We surface estimates and point at your vet whenever there's any doubt. Your vet has the dog in front of them; we have a photo.
